Privacy policy

The short version: your footage lives and gets transcribed on your Mac. When you ask for an edit, the text needed to plan it (a transcript, sometimes a few frames) goes to our AI provider through our server, and neither stores the content. We run no ads, no third-party analytics, and we never sell your data.
This policy covers the Squire app for macOS, the Squire companion surfaces (the phone remote and the DaVinci Resolve panel), and this website, all made by Pithos Labs. We wrote it to be read, not skimmed past. If anything here is unclear or looks wrong, tell us at info@pithoslabs.org.
▌ What stays on your Mac
Squire is built local-first. These never leave your machine as files:
- ●Your video and audio files. Editing, cutting, and rendering happen on your Mac with the bundled tools.
- ●Footage transcription. The speech model that transcribes your footage runs entirely on your Mac. Transcripts are cached locally and expire after 30 days.
- ●Your finished edits, in your Documents folder, which uninstalling never touches.
▌ What leaves your Mac, and why
Nothing is sent anywhere until you sign in. After that, everything below travels through our own server, encrypted in transit, and only when you use the feature it powers.
When you speak a command
The short recording of your spoken command is sent through our server to a transcription service (OpenAI) to be turned into text. Our server passes the audio through and does not store it or the resulting text.
When Squire plans an edit
To decide what to cut, our AI provider (Anthropic) needs to read your request and the material it concerns. Depending on the job, that can include the transcript of your footage, a handful of still frames from it, and the names and paths of the files involved. Each request also carries a small snapshot of context so Squire can figure out what you mean: the app and window in front, and a short preview of your clipboard (at most 200 characters). If you turn on screen awareness, which is off by default, a screenshot of the front window is included too. Our server relays these requests and logs only technical metadata (model, timing, outcome), never the content.
Your account
You sign in with Google. We store your email address, display name, and a user id. Your sign-in tokens live in the macOS Keychain on your machine.
Usage signals
The app reports which kind of action ran (for example “rough cut”), not what you said, so we can see what gets used and meter free-tier credits. While you are signed in, your Mac also registers itself with your account (device name, hostname, app version) and checks in regularly so the phone remote and Resolve panel can reach it.
Remote sessions
When you drive Squire from your phone or the Resolve panel, the conversation has to cross the network, so more is stored on our server for those jobs: the request text, job progress and results (which can include file names), and a low-resolution preview video of the edit so you can watch it remotely. Preview links expire after 24 hours. Jobs you run entirely on your Mac do not upload previews.
Payments
Paid plans are handled by Polar, our merchant of record. Checkout happens on their pages; we send them your email and user id, and we never see your card details.
Update checks and downloads
The app checks GitHub for updates. That reveals your IP address and app version to GitHub, nothing more; system profiling is off.
Sound effects search
If you ask for a sound effect, your search words are sent to Freesound through our server (and kept in our logs), and your Mac downloads the audition previews from Freesound directly.

Only the services that make Squire work, only for the purposes above, and never for advertising:

▌ What we don’t do
- ●No selling or renting your data. Not to anyone.
- ●No ads and no ad tracking.
- ●No third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs in the app.
- ●No storing the content of your AI requests, transcripts, or voice audio on our server.
- ●No reading your files or screen except to carry out the request you just made.
▌ Your choices
- ●Permissions are yours. Microphone, accessibility, screen recording, and folder access are all granted (and revocable) in System Settings. Squire degrades gracefully without them.
- ●Screen awareness is opt-in. Screenshots are only ever included if you switch it on.
- ●Sign out any time. Signed out, nothing is sent.
- ●Uninstall cleanly.The built-in uninstaller removes Squire’s local data, caches, and downloaded models. Your edits in Documents stay put.
▌ Retention and deletion
Account records, job history, and service logs are kept while your account is active so the product works and so we can debug it. To delete your account and everything tied to it, email info@pithoslabs.org and we will remove it.
▌ Changes to this policy
If we change what data we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top. Squire is in alpha and moving fast; we would rather over-update this page than let it drift from the truth.
